Family Support and Referrals

Family Services operate in cooperation with other agencies, services, and local programs to ensure that area residents receive the services they need. Some of our partnerships include: Loughborough Christmas and Emergency Relief Fund, Frontenac Community Mental Health (http://www.fcmhs.ca/), Kingston Community Credit Counselling (http://www.k3c.org/), Retired Teachers Federation, and Community Living Kingston (Information).

Alzheimer Support Group

In cooperation with the Alzheimer Society of Kingston, there is a monthly support group held here the last Thursday from 7 - 9 pm of each month. Education sessions for professional caregivers and volunteers are planned annually.

New venture between the Alzheimer Society and the Rural VISIONS Centre with Alzheimer Society Staff. Caregivers of a person with dementia can book a free appointment for counselling and support on the last Friday of each month.

Arthritis

CFCSC has agreed to provide space for individual assessment and treatment planning, group client education and service provider education.

The type of assistance you can receive includes:

  • Testing your joints to see if you have active arthritis
  • Discussing ways to relieve pain
  • Determining exercises that can strengthen the muscles that support your joints
  • Assessing how to do things for yourself, when to ask for help and when to say "no"
  • Receiving information about assistive devices that can help you with daily activities, and
  • Putting you in touch with other services that you might find helpful

Community Living Kingston

Community Living Kingston is a non-profit agency that provides many different types of assistance to individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families. The Family Support team is excited to announce that we will be at Rural VISIONS Centre the third Wednesday afternoon of each month beginning in March. We invite everyone we know and those we havent met yet to come and see what supports and resources we offer.

Hearing Clinics

In cooperation with the Canadian Hearing Society, clients can meet with a Hearing Health Care Counselor to discuss hearing difficulties, purchase hearing aid batteries and have their hearing aid cleaned. These clinics are run by appointment on an as needed basis.

Income Tax Preparation

During Income Tax season, Canada Custom and Revenue trained volunteers will complete tax returns for those individuals with incomes of less than $29,590. By appointment only. No set fee, donation expected.
