All Volunteers Welcome

Administrative Volunteers

People to answer phones, greet clients and volunteers, manage requests and perform general office duties. One day a week commitment.

Baby Blanket and Bootie Makers

To assist in providing all new Mothers in the community with a Welcome to Newborn package.

Baby Talk Drop-in Assistant

Help set up before and clean up after the program. Greet people as they come in. Make sure families have received a Welcome to Newborn Package.

Bingo Workers

Greet players as they enter the hall and handle cleanup at monthly fundraising event.

Board Member

Help to govern the organization, determine the needs of the community. Set policies and procedures. Represents and promotes the organization in the community.

Caring Friends - Bereavement Support

Compassionate individuals to help bereaved community members. After training, these volunteers provide emotional support to clients approximately 4 hours per month for a period of up to one year.

Trained Palliative Care Volunteers can offer support to clients and their families when facing a life-threatening illness.

Caring Friends Volunteer Support Network

Caring Friends are experienced community bereavement volunteers. Caring Friends provide support to the bereaved by offering practical advice on the grief process, and emotional support to help the bereaved cope with loss.

Caring Friends volunteers offer telephone reassurance, and in-home visits to the bereaved in this rural community.

Chefs, Bakers, Cooks

Note:

The title depends on the event... "Chef" during a barbecue season and a "Baker" or "Cook" during day activities at the Rural Visions Centre on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis.

Chefs:

  • Ensure that there is sufficient food and condiments for the number expected.
  • Prepare and serve the food.
  • Participate in activities following the barbecue.
  • Assist with clean up afterwards.

Baker or Cook:

  • Determine what foods can be prepared as a group activity.
  • Ensure that all needed supplies are available.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to those in attendance participating in the baking or cooking activity.
  • Ensure that clean up is completed.

Committee Member

There are three committees, each having different requirements.

  • Publicity and Fundraising Committee
  • Nominating Committee
  • Executive and Finance Committee

Craft Instructor / Assistant

Creative and patient individual to lead clients (potentially with dementia) through arts and crafts projects.

Diner's Entertainers

Individuals with a particular skill or talent are required to entertain at a noon meal held twice a month, once in Sydenham and once in Harrowsmith. Volunteers receive their full-course catered meal for entertaining.

Diners Helper

To set up, take down and clean up at diners.

Driver

To provide escorted transportation for shopping, social programs and activities, medical and legal appointments for seniors, and low income families.

Entertainers

To provide entertainment in a group environment.

Escort

To provide assistance to clients who because of frailty or a cognitive impairment need more help than escorted transportation provides.

Exercise Instructor

Energetic and enthusiastic individual to guide seniors through a weekly exercise program.

Friendly Visiting

To establish an ongoing and caring relationship with seniors.

Funding Researcher

To provide assistance in searching and obtaining funding for services and new programs proposed by the Family Services Programs.

Good Food Box

Host Sites - To assist with the orders and delivery of the Good Food Box, providing the opportunity for rural residents to purchase fresh produce at wholesale prices.

Driver - To assist with the delivery of the Good Food Box program providing the opportunity for rural residents to purchase fresh produce at wholesale prices.

Grandfriends

Individuals to provide support to parents in our community. Grandfriends receive training on community resources, early childhood development, and child focused First Aid and CPR before the match is made. Grandfriends share skills, provide advice, and may accompany parents to medical appointments or shopping and assist with emergency childcare. A two hour, weekly commitment is requested.

Hymn Sing Leader

To provide our clients with the opportunity to participate in regular activities scheduled at our Centre or at other locations within our community. These programs will provide a relaxed group setting where our clients can enjoy themselves.

Newsletter Coordinator

To proofread, photocopy and mail the monthly newsletter that keeps seniors and families informed of activities provided by the Rural Visions Centre.

Parenting Class Facilitator

To better equip parents of young children to raise healthy and happy children by teaching established courses in parenting.

Senior Activity Assistant

To provide activities which give our clients an opportunity to socialize with other seniors outside of their home and have a good time.

"Welcome to Newborn" Deliverer / Package Assemblers

Deliverer - Deliver packages to families in the area with new babies. Time commitment depends on the number of new babies in the month. A vehicle is essential.

Package Assemblers - To assist in packaging helpful gifts and valuable information for new parents. These packages are wrapped up in blankets and booties crafted by volunteers.
